Public Safety Officer – Full Time

Job Description

The Public Safety Officer position is a challenging role which includes many different duties. PSO’s patrol the Park property, enforce rules, respond to calls including emergencies, render medical aid and assistance, monitor access points, perform building checks, monitor alarm systems, complete investigations, prepare detailed reports, complete patrols on foot, in vehicles and boats, dispatch patrol units, process member and guest requests, maintain proficiency on multiple computer systems and other duties as directed.

Sandy Pines is a seasonal member-owned recreational community, RV resort & campground 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. The resort encompasses 813 acres with Lake Monterey, a 216 acre private lake and an 18-hole golf course. There are 2,200 seasonal member sites including a 54 unit year round condo complex, campsites, cabins and seasonal park model rentals. Park amenities include a splash pad & water slide, ropes course, disc golf course, mini-golf, 3 remote control car tracks, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, 13 heated bathroom & shower facilities and 3 heated outdoor pools. Duties & Responsibilities

Public Safety Office

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for members and guests
  • Provide professional courteous service to members and guests at all times
  • Protect members lives and property
  • Protect Park infrastructure and property
  • Patrol Park on foot and patrol vehicles, including boats
  • Enforce Park rules including, trespass, traffic, alcohol and controlled substance
  • Maintain a close cooperative working relationship with police, fire, and EMS agencies
  • Complete thorough investigations and detailed reports
  • Process member requests in person, by phone, or by email
  • Identify hazardous conditions or safety issues
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Process member payments, balance register transactions, and prepare deposits
  • Radio dispatching and call talking
  • Other duties as directed

Working Conditions and Environment

Working conditions are varied and demanding, including long periods of standing and walking. Periods of physical exertion may occur depending on assignment. Must be willing to work in all types of weather, including inclement weather. Must be able to safely operate vehicles in all types of conditions and weather. Will be required to work in both office environment and outdoors environment under demanding and busy conditions. Must maintain a professional appearance at all times. Working conditions may include an element of risk depending on assignment. Must be willing to work days, afternoons or nights as directed. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Medical licensure as Paramedic or EMT
  • An Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or related field
  • Concealed Pistol License in State of Michigan
  • Experience in law or rule enforcement and investigations. Considerable experience as a Military Police Officer or similar MOS with honorable discharge may qualify.
  • Strong interest in community, health, and recreation
  • Experience in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and detection of controlled substances
  • Certified Traffic Radar Operator
  • Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) certification/training
  • Extensive experience in investigations and report writing

Salary & Benefits

This is a full time position requiring 40 hours per week. The pay rate is based upon qualifications. Benefits are provided. Our work week is Monday-Sunday 24 hours a day, including holidays.
